St. John Ambulance: Uphill Quadrilateral Division

The Division was formed in 1989 as a Cadet Division to serve the youth of Uphill, Bleadon and Hutton together with the Coronation and Oldmixon estates of Weston-super-Mare. In 1989 an adult Division was formed allowing the cadets to move on and stay within the local division.

The Division accepts cadets from 10 years of age and adults at 18 with the main objective to teach First Aid and to enable members to cover First Aid duties at events in Weston and Bristol.

"Care" duties are also performed at a holiday scheme for disabled children amongst others.

Over half of the 47,000 volunteers in St. John Ambulance are young people between the ages of 6 to 16. They are called Badgers and Cadets.

Members take proficiency awards in subjects such as childcare, fire fighting, map reading and drug education. On three occasions the Division has been honored to send representatives to Royal receptions held at Buckingham Palace. They have the opportunity to attend an annual camp together with plenty of social and fun activities

The Division meets at St. Nicholas Church Hall in Uphill every Friday during school term time from 6.30 to 8.30 pm.

For further information about the opportunities for young people in St. John Ambulance contact the Youth Services Training Department on 0870-235 5231.
