Village Society
KEEPING
THE VILLAGE IN UPHILL
The Uphill Village Society exists to preserve, promote and enhance the
character and interests of the village of Uphill for the benefit of the
village and residents.
It is
a voluntary association funded wholly by subscriptions, donations and
grant aid where available. The Society is non political and is governed
by a written constitution a copy of which is available on request.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership is open to all residents, groups and businesses within the
village of Uphill. Non-residents and organisations can join on an associate
basis but have no voting rights. All local Councillors for the Uphill
Ward are automatically entitled to membership of the Society and to serve
on its General Committee but have no voting rights.
The
General Committee
A General Committee of 12 Members of the Society plus Officers is appointed
by election of the Members at the Annual General Meeting held every April.
Other Members maybe co-opted to serve on the General Committee at the
request of that Committee but at anyone time their number shall not exceed
four.
MEETINGS
The General Committee of the Society meet on the fourth Wednesday of every
month (except December). To assist in pursuing the objects of the Society
sub-committees and working parties are formed from within the General
Committee and Membership to deal with such matters as planning, conservation
and environmental issues. These committees meet as and when required
Public
Meetings
All Members of the Society are welcome and encouraged to contact the General
Committee with any concerns or enquires they may have with regard to matters
affecting the village.
Special
Meetings.
On occasions Special Meetings and Exhibitions are staged by the Society
either in its own right or in conjunction with other organisations and
groups.
PUBLICATIONS
The Society publishes a magazine three times a year (Spring, Summer and
Winter) delivered free to all Members
and Associate Members. This provides news of the Society's activities
as well as other information and articles on matters of interest to the
village. Copies are available to purchase separately. Regular bulletins
are published in the village notice board in Old Church Road.
SUBSCRIPTIONS
Membership of the Society is by minimum donation as of £5.00 per Uphill
household and £7.50 for non-residents and lasts for 12 months from 1st
