Uphill Women's Institute
The Women's Institute (WI) is the largest national charity for women with a quarter of a million members and 8,000 local WI's around the country. The WI was started in 1897 in Canada by Adelaide Hood in Stoney Creek, Ontario because one of her children died from what she believed was her own ignorance of hygiene, so she started classes for local women on domestic science. The first WI in the UK met in 1915 at Llanfairpwll, Anglesey, four years later there were 1,405 WI's in England and Wales and in 1919 the organisation became independent.

Our institute was formed in 1946 and has continued without a break since then, we have at present approximately 30 members.

We enjoy speakers on a variety on subjects, this year the subjects range from alternative therapies to the lives of Victorian servants.

We are also involved in village events throughout the year.

We meet on the second Wednesday in the month at the Victory Hall in Westfield Road at 7.15pm.

We warmly welcome new members and visitors, just come along and join us.
