Headteacher Mrs Chloe Langson (BA)

Built in 1872 by the Knyfton Family, the local estate owners the original building comprising the Master’s house (now the school office) and school room is of typical Victorian design with the freestone bell tower a distinctive feature. Until quite recently the bell would be rung at the start of the school day but electricity has now taken over that job.

Initially accommodating less than 100 pupils the school is now a Maintained Community Primary School with 322 children in attendance in the 4 - 11 age range living mainly in the Uphill, Bleadon and south Weston super Mare area.

Uphill School is special because we seek, by working in partnership with parents and the community, to instil a love of learning, a sense of enquiry and the ability to think for oneself, within a secure and stimulating learning environment. We aim for all members of our school community to grow in self-esteem, strive for individual standards of excellence and become responsible, caring people within the school and the wider community.

All learners at Uphill will participate in an environment which will enable them to:

-Access a rich stimulating curriculum.
-Challenge themselves to achieve their best.
-Be encouraged to take responsibility for their learning.
-Demonstrate the ability to think and express themselves clearly.
-Be valued for having enthusiasm, creativity and a willingness to take risks.
-Develop their ability to work collaboratively.
-Develop a growing understanding of spirituality and respect for cultural and religious beliefs and differences within our multi-cultural society.
-Develop pride in belonging to Uphill Primary School and this community.
